Tuberculosis, or TB, is a bacterial infection that can spread through the lymph nodes and bloodstream to any organ in your body and most often the lungs. red louie white is a lover kitty. he's very photogenic too. this photo was taken at the one of the three places you are most likely to find Red...waiting by the sliding door to be let out. he has trained us to let him in and out an average of 25 times a day....and we do it - without even batting an eyelash. he is king of this castle.

this little beauty is growing on my window seal right now! can you believe it?? I think I just figures I couldn't maintain a plant such as this!

this plant was given to Paige when she was recovering from her accident in December. It had three beautiful blooms on it at the time, but they quickly faded.

I'm happy to report, after being put in charge of the care of this plant, that it's thriving. This is the first new bloom since in my care - but there is another one on the way!! I feel like a proud mother!! hahaha. So I shall call her Alice.

These words are from Cockney Rhyming slang which began in London. Cockneys were a close community and they had a suspicion of strangers and a dislike for the police. Cockneys came up with a language of their own based on a rhyming slang. It was difficult for strangers to understand, because the second noun would always be dropped. "Apples and Pears", meaning stairs, would be shortened to just "apples". To "Pop" is the slang word for "Pawn". "Weasel" is taken from "weasel and stoat", meaning coat. It was traditional for even the poor to own a suit, which they wore as their "Sunday Best". When times were tough they would pawn their suit or coat on a Monday and claim it back before Sunday. Hence the term "Pop! goes the Weasel!"

Actually, Carter is pretty level headed when it comes to these kinds of things. He's thorough and careful too.
So I think it will all be OK.

And, yes mother, I told him not to put his fingers in the blades. :) Although, our life insurance does pay out for dismemberment!! :)

It's nice and quiet today. Carter is spending the night at the Jacobs' house, Galen stayed at Grace for the weekend, and Paige is visiting friends in Warsaw. Sigh. I love Saturdays!

cheddar and herb biscuits

Biscuits:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons shortening
3 tablespoons butter, cold (or room temp works too)
1 cup buttermilk (i never have buttermilk so i use 1 c milk and 1 1/2 tsp vinegar... let them sit together until little bubbles appear on the top, about ten min.)
1 1/4 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese (i pretty much do 2 cups)

Buttery Topping:
3 tablespoons melted butter
1/4 teaspoon dried parsley flakes (not necessary... just pretty)
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, garlic powder and salt. Cut in shortening and butter until coarse crumbs are formed. Lightly mix in grated cheese. Mix in buttermilk just until moist (dry spots here and there are ok - the biscuits will be tough if they are overmixed). Drop the biscuits onto a greased or lined baking sheet (i use my cookie scooper). Bake for 12-14 minutes, until browned and golden. While the biscuits are baking, in a small bowl combine butter, parsley, garlic powder and salt. Right when the biscuits come out of the oven, brush the butter/herb mixture over the biscuits evenly (alternately, you can dip the top of the biscuit into the butter mixture). Serve immediately.

Absolutely dead. This phrase dates from around 1350. It most likely referred to the costly metal nails hammered into the outer doors of rich people, and were clinched on the inside of the door and therefore were "dead," and could not be used again.

She is still without a car though, so i guess she is borrowing one of theirs??

Paige and i spent a good part of today in ft wayne at the doctor. They checked on her fractured collerbone to determine its healing progress. Doc gave her 4 more weeks of a 10lb weight limit. We are hoping this will not be a problem for her nursing clinicals that start tomorrow.

And while paige and i were gone, carter stayed home to complete his Black Pearl Lego set. It is quite impresssive!!
This is what he bought with the Christmas $$$ that the Wakas gave him.

i love this kid!
she is amazing!
Grace is 1 1/2 years old.
She is my sister Stephanie's only child.
here are my observations after spending the day with her...

she can repeat every word you say, even the bad ones - so i'm told by her mommie. :)

she picks up after herself. i told all four girls today to start cleaning up their messes - grace was the only one who immediately did what i said - and she's the youngest. stephanie has got her trained good!!!

she follows instructions. she always did exactly as i told her to. you can tell she is really smart and totally understands what you are telling her!

she stays where you put her. when i put her to bed in the tent last night, she never even moved. went right to sleep and didn't make a peep. wow!

she smiles a lot. she is so happy and content in life. give this child a box and she'll play quietly for hours.

I LOVE THIS KID. I am so proud to be her Aunt Jen. :)

last night we had a sleep over. isabelle, fiona jeanne, and gracie all slept in the tent and did really good!!
then this morning addyson and jaycik joined the party.
while jaycik was fast asleep, us girly girls took the opportunity to put together a foam gingerbread house. it was a LOT of fun!!

Aunt Jen invited Isabelle, Fiona Jeanne, and Gracie over for a sleep over. We ate Apple Jacks, snacked on popcorn, played HiHoCherrio, made a tent, and now we are finally off to sleep! Early in the morning Addyson and Jaycik will be here too!!! Aunt Jen will be a tired lady tomorrow afternoon!
Earlier this evening we were all over at Rodney and Jeanine's house for our Christmas (finally). Jeanine made a fabulous meal and it was a great time had by all. Xoxo

Question: Describe your bedroom. What are you most proud of?
The walls are painted grey but in the middle of the wall is a med red stripe, then under that is a small white stripe, a big dark blue stripe, a small white stripe, and a med red stripe.

My desk is the box in the top right corner with my "chair" in front and the trash next to it. My fish tank is right next to where I do my school with a shelf for a little of my LEGO collection ond LEGO boxes. The door at the bottom right corner. The blackness is just the chimney with the wall around it. Next to the chimney is the "closet" that has my shirts, old desk (where Red eats), printer, my cds and books, and a big shelf at the top that has just random stuff up there... above that in my 4-drawer shelf. the top has my undies and socks, the 2nd has my shorts, PJs, and pants, and the bottom 2 just have old toys, balls and other stuff. On top of it is a display of knick-knacks and other collected and prized things. And of course, my favorite non-portable thing in the room: MY BED!!!! Next to it is my bedside table holding my bed bible, books I've been reading, alarm clock, and lamp. Now you may be wondering... "What is THAT???? Well the last box is a tablestand with my small silver with muti-colored lights and ornaments tree on top! The top left corner is two windows on each side of the corner. I'm proud of my goldfish, Strider (sound familiar?). I bought him at Pet Supplies Plus in Elkhart Market Center for less than a quarter. When? I'm certain I got him someday in May 2007! Monday Morning.
time to start picking up the pieces.
we were finally able to go and get galen's car out of the pokey.

ya, know how sometimes you say "it's not as bad as it looks"? well, this time it is.
we 'think' the only thing NOT damaged was the motor and all else UNDER the hood.

if you peek inside, the driver's seat is the only thing in tact. all others are squished.
Praise to our God for providing that 'Hedge of Protection" that we always ask for.

We are also thankful for the price tag. :)
We were told that the bill for getting the car out of storage was going to be around $600.
Turns out it was only $458! Small blessings - we are keeping track!
We will be doing a little bit of our own salvage work, then the car will be off to the scrap yard soon.
We expect to get around 300.00 for it.

Paige's Accident. Day 4.

Friday 10:45am.
When Larry and I arrived at the hospital, Paige was getting ready to go down to surgery. She said she didn't sleep well again, but several hours asleep in surgery should catch her back up.

Pastor Terry from NMC came by to pray with us before surgery. It's nice to know that there are so many praying and thinking of her during this time.

The bone surgeon guy says he will release her today if everything goes as planned - we just have to be released by the neurologist and respiratory dude. Most likely we will be home on Saturday.

Good news too... The bone surgeon guy says Paige will not need a sling for the left broken scapula (back shoulder blade). It will just be sore until it heals.

As for the right collarbone, the 4inch plate will stay in her shoulder forever, unless she wants it removed. The surgery will leave a nice long horizontal scar.

Thursday 10:30am.
I'm pretty sure it's Day 3 of the accident. I feel like we've been here for weeks. I'm sore and exhausted.
Larry and I didn't get up to the hospital till after 10. When we got there, Paige was sleeping good.

Paige had another scan of her brain earlier this morning. The neurosurgeon said the bleeds are the same - if not smaller. so that is great news.

Paige said they made her get up and walk around a little this morning. I see they also made her sit in a chair. The movement made her vomit though. So far she vomits every time she is put into motion and she cannot keep anything down. I'd imagine that she'll be skin and bones by the time she is released.

coming up...

They should be moving her to a recovery room sometime today.

If the neurosurgeon and respiratory therapist release her, she will have surgery on her collarbone friday at 11am.

Yesterday I went to Carson's house to hang out for a while. At his house I got a call. Paige was in a one-man car accident. She slid off the road and hit a tree. My mom and dad went with the ambulance to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, so I had to stay the night at Carson's. I went to our house later to get clothes and schoolwork of course. So I supposedly am going to stay here until I don't know when. Mom said that they should be back by Friday at least.

Question of the Day: I f had won a $1000 shopping spree to one of your favorite stores. Which store is it and what would you spend your money on?
I would probably choose Gamestop. It is the one place where I can spend $1000. I would buy a Xbox 360 and maybe a PS3 too. That would already be around $330. I would get a new Wii because ours has a few minor problems.($430). I would get the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword bundle (includes a cool Wii remote).($500). I would spend the rest on 2 GameCube controllers and a GC Memory Card, a black Wii nunchuk and remote along with Wii Motion Plus (so that the controller is easier to sense), a cordless Wii sensor, and spend the rest on games for all my systems. Now what am I going to do with all this? I have no idea...
But my other option is to choose Family Christian Stores. I would just buy alot of CDs and some DVDs, maybe some shirts, a new bible and give the rest to donations that they have.

At the church gym, Dad, Mom, and I worked for FMSC. Mom and I got to stay at the same table. We held bags open for 2 people to put the ingredients in, and then we weighed them to see if we had the right amount of food in them. Dad went to the other side of the gym to seal the boxes. We got done at 6:30. I (with my small group) am going to do a shift tonight at 10:00PM - 12:30AM.

Today at 4 Mom, Dad, and I are going to the church to package meals for starving children in Africa. FMSC (or "fmsk" as I like to shorten it to) is returning to our church again. Last year they had it in October '10.

So yesterday, Dad and I went out to South Bend. We had to pick up Mom's camera. Also Dad wanted to go to Gamestop to see if we found a videogame. There was one a few miles away from the camera store. In the near back of the store there was a HUGE bin FULL of PS2 games. Obviously we were in heaven... so we looked through and we found a few games. Dad got a wrestling game (we actually had borrowed this game from someone a few years ago and had alot of fun with it) and MOH: Rising Sun (we lost ours a few months ago). I got a Legend of Zelda game for the Wii. I also bought a game for someone for Christmas! :D
We also went to FCS, because I wanted to get a CD.

-add 1/2 c water
-shake 60 seconds
-pour out six muffins

What the package does NOT tell you...
open the container immediately after shaking for 60seconds.
If you wait longer than 60 seconds - the whole cakey-chemical-reaction-thing will continue continue to expand inside the container until it explodes all over you AND your kitchen.
